Ryan Fields to Compete in 2024 Olympic Trials

By: Alex Kline, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications

INDIANAPOLIS – Former Cal Poly Pomona standout student-athlete Ryan Fields will compete in the 400 meter hurdles at the United States Olympic Trials. The trials will take place at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon from June 21-30.

"We are so proud of Ryan for all he has accomplished during his career at CPP and it is amazing for him to cap it off by competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials," said head coach Chris Bradford. "He has earned this opportunity, and I am excited to see him on the track for a few more races in the Green and Gold."

Fields' time of 49.96 seconds this spring ranks 16th fastest among the top 34 athletes that have been accepted to compete in the 400 meter hurdles at the Olympic Trials. He has the eighth-fastest time among college athletes, and the fastest time among the three NCAA Division II athletes in the event. Fields narrowly missed the automatic qualifying mark of 49.75, which only 14 athletes in the nation met.

The sixth-year Bronco was recently named CCAA Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, CCAA Male Athlete of the Year, and Cal Poly Pomona Male Student Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive season. Fields broke three Cal Poly Pomona school records in the 110m hurdles (13.64) and the 400m hurdles (49.96). He anchored the 4x400 relay team that broke a 52-year-old school record with a time of 3:09.66. His performances garnered four CCAA Track Athlete of the Week awards, bringing his career total to a CCAA-record 15.
